Organic farming · 2024 data

More organic land, greater need for understandable traceability

The “Bio in cifre 2025” report records over 2.5 million organically farmed hectares, up 2.4% on 2023 and representing 20.2% of UAA.

Organic growth is not only about land area. It also increases the need to make information about products, companies and supply chains understandable: origin, practices, controls, processing and destination.

For a network such as T.E.R.R.A., the data points to two priorities: clear standards and digital tools that connect products with people and territories.

Markets · 2025

Exports grow, but value must remain connected to origin

ISMEA reports Italian food exports of around 73 billion euros in 2025, up 5% on 2024.

Growth in international markets confirms the strength of Italian food production. At the same time, it increases the responsibility to explain precisely what makes a product recognisable.

Perceived value becomes stronger when supported by accessible data and a supply chain in which every participant understands their role.

Rural diversification · 2024

Sicily leads agritourism growth

In 2024 Italy had 26,360 agritourism businesses. National growth was 0.9%, while Sicily recorded +8.9%.

Rural areas are not only places of production. They can also provide hospitality, education, tasting and supply-chain stories.

The challenge is to avoid generic communication. Landscapes, products and activities must be presented through concrete, verifiable elements.

Agricultural economy · 2024

A positive year overall, but not for every supply chain

In real terms, agricultural production grew by 0.6% and added value by 2%, with different results across sectors.

Fruit, potatoes and dried pulses increased. Cereals, citrus fruit and olive oil declined. An average reading is not enough to understand individual supply chains.

National data should be accompanied by territorial, seasonal and company information, always declaring the source, period and status of the information.
